Bringing a Historic Ukrainian Opera Back to the Stage

Creonte – our special project 💙💛

For Mission Ukraine, culture is more than art — it’s a source of strength, unity, and resilience. Building on our experience with music therapy and cultural elements in our projects, we are proud to be part of a unique project: the revival Creonte, the first opera by Dmytro Bortniansky.

Written by a young Ukrainian composer during his studies in Italy and premiered 250 years ago in Venice, Creonte tells a daring story: the people rise against tyranny, justice prevails, and peace is restored. Its world premiere marked a historic milestone, and we are now continuing with the CREONTive World initiative, which aims to bring this opera to audiences outside of Ukraine.

The project explores diverse formats, from full productions to concerts, conferences, and public events, and includes a CD release to share the music more widely. We are proud to carry out this mission together with our partner and friend of Ukraine, James Butterwick, dedicated to decolonizing Ukrainian art.

Our Partners

RTQ - Refuse to Quit

At Mission Ukraine Foundation, we’re honored to partner with RTQ, a dedicated organization focused on empowering children and women in Ukraine.

Together, we’ve rebuilt Ohmatdyt’s aqua clinic — the first water rehabilitation center for children in Ukraine — and launched initiatives like music therapy programs for kids, fostering emotional resilience through art.

RTQ stands for resilience, compassion, and lasting change. Their unwavering support helps create safe spaces where children and women can heal, grow, and thrive.

Be an Angel

At Mission Ukraine Foundation, we are deeply grateful for our partnership with Be an Angel, a compassionate organization from Germany dedicated to supporting vulnerable communities.

Be an Angel’s commitment to mental health and transformative change is integral to our shared vision of creating lasting impact. Through our collaboration, we are exploring various opportunities, including the New Start project, aimed at providing psychological rehabilitation for frontline workers in Ukraine, and other initiatives that focus on healing and resilience.

Kyiv Classic Orchestra

We are proud to partner with the Kyiv Classic Orchestra, whose beautiful music plays a vital role in our Music Therapy for Kids project. Under the direction of Herman Makarenko, a UNESCO Artist for Peace, the orchestra brings healing and inspiration to children through the therapeutic power of music.

The Kyiv Classic Orchestra’s dedication to the arts and its profound impact on emotional wellbeing make them an invaluable partner in our mission to support children and their families in Ukraine. Their music not only enriches lives but also helps foster resilience and healing in the most challenging times.
