Restoring a Rehabilitation Pool for Children at Ohmatdyt — A Shared Victory

In 2023, Mission Ukraine became the first NGO to believe in what seemed like an impossible dream — restoring the rehabilitation pool at Ohmatdyt National Children’s Hospital, abandoned for over 30 years.

Thanks to our donors’ support, the facility was renovated and equipped with modern technology. The pool officially opened in June 2024, and children have now been receiving aquatic therapy there for over six months.

One of the young patients is Marynka from the Kherson region. In May 2022, a Russian shell hit her home, and she lost her leg. Since then, Marynka has been undergoing long-term treatment at Ohmatdyt and is now learning to move and trust her body again — right in our pool. Her story is one of thousands, reminding us that we are not just rebuilding infrastructure — we are helping to rebuild lives.

Our next step is to train six rehabilitologists in adaptive swimming, helping children like Marynka recover faster and with dignity.

Additionally, we donated professional cleaning equipment for the hospital’s pool and physical rehabilitation department. This includes a floor scrubber for the pool area, a pressure washer for hard-to-reach spots and pool walls, and a professional vacuum cleaner. We also organized training sessions for the staff with support from Kärcher company representatives.
